Lawyer, Legal advisor to Embassies and Special advisor to the Ministry of Justice, Portugal

Lenia Lopes has been a lawyer since 1980 and acts as legal adviser for several embassies and international banks in the areas of: corporate and labour law, industry, commerce, tourism, and real estate. She is General Secretary of the Portuguese Section of the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva, as well as Secretary General of the General Assembly Meeting of the Swedish-Portuguese and Finnish- Portuguese Chambers of Commerce. She has been a legal adviser of five Ministers of Justice and one Minister of Internal Affairs in different governments in Portugal and has performed various functions at State level in both ministries. Ms. Lopes was also one of the founding members of the Portuguese Refugee Council.

She has been awarded the "Royal Order of the Polar Star, First Class" by the King of Sweden and the "Knight, First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit" by the King of Norway, the "Knight First Class of the Order of the Lion" by the President of the Republic of Finland, as well as the decoration "Knight of the Order of the Danish Flag" by the Queen of Denmark.

Ms. Lopes is currently the Chair of Soroptimist International's Committee for Constitution and Resolutions. Previously, she was President of the Soroptimist International Club in Portugal - Lisboa Fundador (Founding Club).
