Hafize Gaye Erkan joined First Republic in 2014 as Senior Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and Co- Chief Risk Officer. With extensive expertise in quantitative risk modeling, stress testing and balance sheet optimization for financial services companies, she is responsible for overseeing the investment portfolio of First Republic and co-directing the enterprise risk management function.
Prior to joining First Republic, Gaye was the Managing Director and Head of Financial Institutions Group Strats for Goldman Sachs, focusing primarily on providing quantitative modeling and risk management solutions to financial institutions including banks, insurance companies, asset managers and other specialty finance firms. Gaye worked closely with Boards of Directors and senior management of banks, providing clients with innovative financing, capital and risk management strategies in light of regulatory, accounting and market developments across a wide spectrum of products. She joined Goldman Sachs in 2005 as an associate in IBD Strats and was named managing director in 2011.
Gaye earned a PhD in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University and a BSc from Bogazici University, Turkey, where she was valedictorian, in 2001. While working on her PhD, she received a National Science Foundation grant for her thesis and multiple Excellence in Teaching awards. Gaye is a member of the Sigma Xi Honor Society.
