Born in Istanbul in 1959, Emine Erdem received her law degree in 1984 and her Master of Science in Organization and Business Administration in 1990 from Istanbul University. She has been a member of the board of directors of Erdem Holding since 1985, and served as a legal advisor of Turkish Airlines since 1990.
Erdem has been a Soroptimist since 1988 when she co-founded SI Club of Etiler/Istanbul. She was the President of SI Turkey 2008-2010. Her Soroptimist career at the level of SI of Europe started with her position as the Governor of SI Turkey 2010-2012. Having served as the Assistant Programme Director of SIE 2013-2015, she was elected as the Vice President for the biennium of 2015-2017. She is currently the Chair of 2015 SI Istanbul Convention.
Erdem is a Board Member of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey and the Assistant Coordinator of Istanbul Women Non-Governmental Organizations Platform. She is also a founding member of UNESCO-Istanbul Center for Global Ethics and Sustainable Development, and a member of Business and Professional Women Turkey, International Federation of University Women, Association for the Support of Women Candidates and Foundation of Turkish Women in Legal Professions. She has been a spokesperson at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Equality Commission Meeting in İstanbul (2009), the 6th World Water Forum Women's Pre-Conference in Marseille (2012), International Federation of University Women Conference in Istanbul (2013) and several UN Global Compact meetings and BPW conferences. She lives in Istanbul, and is married with two children.
